Françoise Le Goaziou vous propose de regarder et discuter du film réalisé autour de la vie, la mort, l’éternité de Salaün ar Foll (Salaun le fou) qui mendiait au nom de la Vierge Marie.

Salaün ar Foll, appelé le Fou du bois, est né en 1310 près de Lesneven dans le Finistère (En Bretagne, France) et mort en 1358. Sans être réellement un Saint, il est l’objet d’une vénération populaire. Il est considéré comme un simple d’esprit par ses contemporains, mendiant son pain de ferme en ferme en répétant inlassablement Ave Maria. Il vit dans une clairière de la forêt près de Lesneven, habite dans le creux d’un arbre, dans la forêt. Il passe toutes ses journées à mendier, après avoir assisté à la messe du matin. Peu après sa mort, on découvre sur sa tombe un lys sur lequel est écrit en lettres d’or : « Ave Maria ». En ouvrant sa tombe, on constate que le lys prend racine dans sa bouche. Le « miracle » attire rapidement les foules. On bâtit une chapelle basilique Notre-Dame du Folgoët au lieu désormais appelé Le Folgoët.

Réalisé par les 3 frères Caouissin, Herri, Perrig et Ronan, tous trois militants bretons, le film "Le Mystère du Folgoët" est la transposition d’un mystère du Moyen-Age évoquant en une heure six siècles de l’histoire de la Bretagne.

Salaün ar Foll, called le Fou du bois (the fool of the forest), was born in 1310 near Lesneven in Finistère (Brittany, France) and died in 1358. Without really being a Saint, he is the object of popular veneration. He was considered as a simple minded by his contemporaries, begging his bread from farm to farm, tirelessly repeating Ave Maria. He lives in a forest clearing near Lesneven, lives in a hollow of a tree, in the forest. He spends all his days begging after attending morning mass. Shortly after his death, a lily was discovered on his tomb, on which is written in gold letters: "Ave Maria". By opening his grave, one observe that the lily takes root in his mouth. The "miracle" quickly attracts crowds. A basilica chapel of Our Lady of Folgoët was built at the place now called The Folgoët.

Directed by the 3 Caouissin brothers, Herri, Perrig and Ronan, all three Breton activists, the film "The mystery of Folgoët" is the transposition of a mystery from the Middle Ages evoking in one hour six centuries of the history of Brittany .
